Gamma-Ray Astronomy

Gamma-ray astronomy provides a window to the universe through the study of photons with the highest energies. Such photons reach the Earth from regions where some of the most violent processes in the universe take place, accelerating particles to extremely high energies. This includes e.g. the center of the Milky Way, which hosts a super-massive black hole, but also the remnants of supernova explosions or much more distant objects, like active galactic nuclei.
